UK Embassy donates bound collection of the Angolan Official Gazette (25/09/2009)
On behalf of the British Government, Pat Phillips, British Ambassador to Angola, donated to the Angolan Bar Association (OAA) a bound collection of the Angolan Official Gazette. The collection of 38 volumes, which bears witness to sixteen years of legislative history from 1967 to 1983, has been carefully preserved by the British Embassy for many years.
The Ambassador decided to make the donation to the Bar Association because of the collection's profound relevance and historical interest for both law students and legal practitioners.
The president of the Bar Association, Inglês Pinto, expressed his thanks on behalf of the law community. He stated that the Embassy’s donation will greatly assist the Bar Association in its efforts to computerise Angolan law and will help cover important gaps in Angola's legislative history. Inglês Pinto particularly highlighted the importance of the first and third series of the Gazette for those involved in commercial law, including companies.
The British Embassy and the Angolan Bar Association have been cooperating for many years in the promotion of legislation and human rights and it is hoped this co-operation will continue given the proud tradition of the United Kingdom in respecting the rule of law and fundamental human rights.
The official ceremony took place on Tuesday the 24th September at the Bar Association’s Office and was attended by embassy staff and member of the Press.
