The British Embassy is seeking talented Angolans to participate in its 2012/13 Chevening Scholarship Programme.  Chevening provides a unique opportunity to spend a full academic year at a British university, return home with a Masters qualification and gain a better appreciation of British life and culture.

Chevening is open to outstanding candidates who display the greatest potential to become Angola’s future leaders and decision-makers, whether in government, civil society or the private sector. Chevening scholarships are highly prized and introduce successful candidates to a network of high achievers worldwide. Candidates must:

  • Be Angolan citizens;
  • Be living and working in Angola;
  • Be graduates with proven academic skills;
  • Have outstanding leadership potential and a minimum of two years relevant post-graduate work experience;
  • Have a proven track record of success or excellence in their professional life, something that distinguishes them from their peers and contemporaries;
  • Be motivated to continue a career toward leadership positions in Angola;
  • Demonstrate interest in maintaining contact with the embassy and the network of alumni;
  • Have good English language skills, equivalent to 6.5 IELTS in reading, writing, speaking and listening;
  • Be dynamic and motivated in their current field, with the potential to apply their studies on return to Angola and benefit both countries.
    This year, we will be particularly interested in candidates pursuing careers related to the areas of:
  • Democracy;
  • Human Rights;
  • Good Governance;
  • Economics, Investment and Trade; and
  • Climate Change, low carbon economies and energy;

If you feel you meet the above criteria we would be very happy to hear from you.

Important note on preparing to study in the UK

We advise applicants to make contact with potential UK institutions at the earliest possible stage.  Please note that all UK institutions will require your original undergraduate degree certificate (diploma da licenciatura) and undergraduate degree transcript (certificado de notas da licenciatura), with certified translations into English, before offering places on courses.  If you do not possess these we advise you to request them from your institution of undergraduate study at the earliest possible stage to avoid disappointment.  Please note the Chevening programme will not fund PhD studies and will only fund MBAs in exceptional circumstances.
